    April 25, 2006

Thank you to everyone who answered the poll. The results have been different than what I expected. It's not too late to take the poll, as I will be working with the colors for a couple months.

Today I pulled out the results from the poll, trend forecasts, the thoughts that have been swarming around in my head for months and my Pantone book. Then I got to play. I love "designer" days like this, they're so few. I always feel odd when someone asks me what I do for a living and I say I design bags. I really only spend about 5% of the year designing the bags and the rest doing everything else that makes a business go.

I'm excited about the new colors. Now that I've selected them, I want to see the prototypes right now. I know, patience. I'm anxious to find out if what I came up with will work. Sometimes I think a color or fabric will be great, then I see it as a sample and yuck is it awful. Other times it's a perfect match.

Now for a little sales pitch. I just sent out a newsletter to my wholesale customers so I thought I should remind you too...Mother's Day is May 14th! If you're a mom, it's a great time to request a new knitting bag. And, if your mom is a knitter, a knitting bag makes a very nice gift. Now, where would one find a fabulous bag? (Check the "where to shop" page to find a shop near you that sells the bags.)

This weekend I'll be doing the 10 mile walk of the Big Sur Marathon. WALK is the key word here, I'm definitely not a runner. I grew up just a block over from the finish line. My sister and Mom have decided it would be a real shame never to participate in it with it being so close. They've signed up the family. Can you hear the enthusiasm in my voice? No? Last fall we had to do the Run Forrest Run 5k (3 miles) walk as a warm up (that's not a requirement of the marathon, but the idea of my sister). How I got pulled into this I don't know.

The "last minute instructions" brochure came a couple days ago. I quote, "Run Big Sur for the worst time in your life..." Now, I'm sure they mean the length of time to finish the race, but of course I read it as meaning experience. On the positive side, the scenery is absolutely gorgeous as it's on Highway 1 along the ocean. I really wanted to get to walk over Bixsby Bridge (the bridge you see in car commercials), but unfortunately the 10 mile participants start past it. Only the real marathoners running 26 miles run over it. I'm guessing it will take about 3.5 hours to finish. That's a long time. Maybe I should take my knitting with me...

I must admit that I was surprised black wasn't in there. Have you considered expanding you line at all? I love the design of the knitters satchel, but it's more like an overnight bag than a handbag size to me, and I don't take big enough projects with me to warrant such a large bag. It would be mostly empty space.

So are we going to hear any of the poll results or are you going to keep us in suspense for months? :)

Yes, I'm always brainstorming new designs and a smaller version is among the list.

The results to the poll will be seen revealed when the new colors are announced. This will be in the fall/winter.

I don't suppose the fact that it's autumn coming into winter for us down under counts? ;)

Can't help being cheeky, sorry. :) I'd definately love a smaller version, so I should just head off and leave you to the designing then.

    Cheers,
    Kate

    Hi Kate,

Are you thinking a smaller version of the satchel, or a smaller bag of a different style?

Do you know if there will be any vendors selling your bags at the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival this weekend? I've been eyeing the satchel for awhile now, and would love to get my hands on one to see if it's what I want. I sorta like the size of it -- big enough to carry knitting stuff AND purse stuff, all in one bag. But that's just a feeling I get from the pictures -- seeing it in person will be nice, if I can....

Jordana - I'm thinking a smaller version of the satchel, I think it's a lovely shape and look for a handbag but just too big to be something I'd carry around all the time. It's hard, because I haven't been able to see any of your bags in person - in Australia, and I haven't seen them in any of the yarn stores I've been to - but from the pic on your photo album it looks absolutely huge.

    Jordana,
My husband just gave me the purple satchel. I had told him I wanted it for mothers day and he bought it for me. Anyway he knows I can't wait to open gifts and he just let me open it(litteraly 10 mins ago)! I was speachless! I love it! It's perfect, just like my current BCBGirls tote that I use ecept in purple(my favorite color) and made just for knitting!
This is an amazing bag!!! I'm going to show all my clients!!! (I work at a major dept. store as the designer handbag specialst think calvin klein,Ralph Lauren, etc.)I can't wait to see more designs! If you are ever down at stanford shopping center I'll be there sporting my new bag!

What a sweet husband! It's so nice to hear how much you love the bag.

Standford...now there's a great place to shop. You may have just created an excuse for me to hang out there for the day.

Jordana - I would also love to see a slightly smaller version of the satchel. I'm thinking something large enough to carry one or two pairs of sock knitting and the other pursy items one normally carries. And maybe in black with fab pink lining? And pink stitching? With silver hardware? Sorry, I get a bit carried away sometimes. I'm a bag and purse junkie. One can never have too many you know...But, I'll leave the designing to the experts. :) - Stephani

    Hey Jordana:

Hope things are going. Congrats on the relationship with JCA. Did you ever settle on your colors? I have customers asking about lime green and pink tones ALL the time. They'd love to see a smaller version as well.
